US sales of Microsoft's Xbox 360 console jumped 28 per cent in June, figures show.
Figures from market research firm NPD Group showed that the Xbox 360 sold 198,400 units last month.
In comparison, the PS3 sold 98,500 units (up 21 per cent), while the Wii sold 381,800 units (up 13 per cent).
Jack Tretton, head of Sony Computer Entertainment America, told the San Jose Mercury News that the $100 price cut on the 60GB PS3 had led to a 135 per cent sales increase over the last two weeks.
"This jump in sales bodes very well for us heading into the fall as we launch an impressive arsenal of hardware and software," Mr Tretton said.
The 60GB PS3 now costs $499 in the US.
NPD Group also reported that 561,900 Nintendo DS handheld consoles were sold in June, compared to 230,100 Sony PSPs.
Sales of the PSP were helped by a generous April price cut.
US software sales reached $1.1bn in June, up 31 per cent on the same month in 2006.
NPD Group analyst Anita Frazier told Reuters news agency: "The industry continues to realise substantial gains, month after month, and on all fronts its great growth."
