Twenty antique jewellery items which were made and hallmarked in Birmingham will be returning to the city to be sold later this month.

The unrelated items are among 970 lots at an antique and modern jewellery auction at Fellows and Sons on Thursday 18 October, starting at 10.30am.

Stephen Whittaker, managing partner at Fellows and Sons, said: "Birmingham has a rich history of both antique and modern jewellery; hence the fact the Jewellery Quarter even exists."

"It’s very exciting for my team of experts to discover a Birmingham hallmark on a piece of antique jewellery.

"That means it was probably made within a few miles of where they work, and gives them a real sense of the history and location of the pieces."

Some of the items for sale include:

  • An Edwardian 9 carat gold heart shape pendant with overlaid floral design detail and a sapphire set flower. It's hallmarked Birmingham 1904, and is expected to fetch between £130 and £200.
  • A Victorian 9 carat gold double row curb link bracelet, with partial inter-spaced textured links to the one row, and a padlock. It is hallmarked Birmingham 1900, and is should fetch at least £100.
  • An Edwardian 9 carat gold bloodstone signet ring, with a central shield shape bloodstone panel. The hallmark is Birmingham 1901, and it’s valued at between £50 and £100.
