Casino Royale and Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest have both broken into the all-time UK box office top 10.

Both films have taken more than £50m each, figures from the UK Film Council show.

Casino Royale, which stars British actor Daniel Craig as 007, is sixth on the list with £55.5m, making it the highest-grossing Bond movie ever.

Johnny Depp's Dead Man's Chest is eighth, taking £52.5m.

Titanic is the leading UK box office movie of all time, followed by Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

John Woodward, UK Film Council: "British filmmakers make brilliant films which audiences flock to see, that's why Casino Royale jumped straight into the £50m club."

Other films in the coveted top 10 include strip comedy The Full Monty and George Lucas' Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

The top 20 UK films grossed £151m at the box office in 2006, the UK Film Council said.

Casino Royale, The Da Vinci Code, Flushed Away, The Queen, Stormbreaker, Children of Men, The History Boys and The Wind that Shakes the Barley proved the most popular releases last year.

John Woodward, chief executive of the UK Film Council, said: "British filmmakers make brilliant films which audiences flock to see, that's why Casino Royale jumped straight into the £50m club.

"Last year's most successful British films at the UK box office demonstrate the sheer range and style of film we can make, from high concept visual effects productions to films which reflect British culture and history."

Total UK cinema sales fell 1 per cent to £762m last year, while admissions slipped 5 per cent to 157 million.
