Angelina Jolie snubs Bond girl role

21st December 2006

Angelina Jolie has turned down the chance to be the next Bond girl in the remake of the 1967 film Casino Royale, according to The Sun newspaper.

She is the latest big-name actress to refuse the offer to play alongside new Bond Daniel Craig.

Charlize Theron, Kimberley Davies and Scarlett Johansson have all declined the chance.

Oscar-winning Theron was British director Martin Campbell's first choice for the role.

Layer Cake star Sienna Miller is now the bookies favourite to land the job.

She would follow in the footsteps of legendary Bond girls such as Halle Berry, Teri Hatcher, Britt Ekland and Ursula Andress.

Robbie Williams is being lined up to perform the theme tune for Casino Royale, according to Yahoo Music.

The website says Williams is set to record a song written by legendary crooner Tony Christie.

Yahoo Music quotes Christie as saying: "Robbie's voice would suit it down to the ground - plus he's current and hip so it would be absolutely great if he did it.

"We tried to make it a typical Bond theme tune with a throbbing dramatic bassline filling the background.

"I'm a huge fan of the old school 007 songs like Shirley Bassey with Goldfinger and Tom Jones singing Thunderball, so I tried to give it that authentic sound. We are due to record it in February."

Casino Royale is expected to open in US cinemas on November 17, 2006.
