French actress Eva Green has been chosen for the role of the next Bond girl, Eon Productions has announced.

Green, 25, will play the enticing Vesper Lynd opposite Daniel Craig in the new James Bond movie, Casino Royale.

She will follow in the footsteps of legendary Bond girls including Halle Berry, Teri Hatcher, Britt Ekland and Ursula Andress.

Green made her film debut three years ago in Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers.

Last year, she starred alongside Orlando Bloom and Liam Neeson in Ridley Scott's epic Kingdom of Heaven.

In other casting news, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen will play the role of Bond's nemesis, Le Chiffre.

Mikkelsen, 40, is best known for his role as Niels in Susanne Bier's Open Hearts.

Angelina Jolie, Kimberley Davies, Scarlett Johansson and Charlize Theron have all rejected offers to appear in the film.

Casino Royale is based on the 1953 novel by Ian Fleming. The film, directed by Martin Campbell, will be released worldwide on November 17.
