The Arctic Monkeys, Take That and the Foo Fighters were the big winners at last night's Brit Awards, winning two gongs each.

The Sheffield-based indie band scooped prizes for best British group and album, while Take That won trophies for best British live act and British single.

The Foo Fighters, meanwhile, went home with the awards for best international group and best album.

Take That lead singer Gary Barlow described the band’s double triumph as "unbelievable".

Kate Nash was named best British female and Mark Ronson was crowned best British male.

In other awards, Kanye West scooped the best international male prize, while Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue took the gong for best international female solo artist.

Paul McCartney, who also performed live at the event, received a special award for outstanding contribution to music.

Other leading acts that performed at this year's Brits included troubled singer Amy Winehouse and Rihanna.

The ceremony, which was hosted by Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, was held in London's Earls Court.
