Daniel Craig's 007 film Casino Royale has gone straight to the top of the UK box office chart, according to Screen International.
The film, which also stars Eva Green and Mads Mikkelsen, took £13.37m over its first four days of release.
Distributor Columbia Pictures said last week that the film pulled in an estimated £1.7m on its opening day.
That figure was more than any other film in the popular James Bond franchise, Columbia Pictures noted.
Based on the first of Ian Fleming's popular spy novels, Casino Royale had its world premiere in London on November 14.
Mock documentary Borat, which had topped the UK chart for the previous two weeks, dropped one place to number two, with ticket sales of £2.53m.
Borat, which sees British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen play a spoof Kazakh reporter, has now taken more than £18m in three weeks at the UK and Ireland box office.
Magical thriller The Prestige fell one spot to third, with an estimated take of £575,600.
Dance-based romantic drama Step Up held steady at four, while gory horror movie Saw III slipped two places to number five.
Other films in the top 10 included Martin Scorcese's mob drama The Departed and computer animated tale Open Season.
This Friday sees the release of Something New, a romantic comedy starring Sanaa Lathan, and Ben Affleck’s crime drama Hollywoodland.
On Monday, web tracking firm Envisional reported that Casino Royale had been illegally downloaded 200,000 times over the weekend.
Envisional's Dr David Price said: "In the face of this international conspiracy, Bond is really up against it."
"There are now several million active digital pirates. Many of them are ordinary families that have got into the habit of downloading the latest episodes of American TV hits.
"And they don't have any qualms about using file sharing networks to copy new movies without paying."
In North America, Casino Royale was narrowly beaten to the top spot by the computer animated penguin comedy Happy Feet.
