Location

A wedding with a difference

30th November 2007

Feeling Adventurous? Your wedding venue doesn't have to be a church or a register office. Why not throw tradition out the window and do something different!

Beach Wedding

Provided you and your guests don't mind getting a few grains of sand here and there, a wedding on a beach could be the perfect location. The sun beating down, the waves lapping against the shore, a gentle sea breeze blowing through your hair...Obviously most beaches are publicly accessible, so you may have to put up with a few 'intruders' walking nearby, but it is possible to rent private beaches for these sorts of occasion. The weather is also a major factor as to how well the wedding may go, so be well aware that a beach wedding in the UK, even in the summer, carries with it the risk of rain!

Castle Wedding

Carrying out a fairytale wedding between a prince and princess in a castle is potentially one of the most romantic settings you could ever dream of. Amberley Castle, near Arundel, West Sussex, carries out these type of ceremonies, as does Bickleigh Castle in Tiverton, Devon, to name just a few. Many castles offer the possibility of hosting the wedding reception in the castle grounds too, adding to the fairytale feeling.

Tracking around

Ever imagined a civil ceremony on a train? If so, that thought could become a reality with the Babbacombe Cliff Railway in Torquay, which offers a cosy and intimate journey tracking up and down the cliffs to Oddicombe Beach. Although space becomes very limited, it's certainly a ceremony to remember.

Setting Sail

Why not cast up your sails and go all aboard for a wedding ceremony on the sea? The 'Kathleen & May' is the last surviving wooden three-masted topsail schooner, and is over 100 years old. A wedding at sea provides incredible settings for photographs and video, although you may have to warn guests of the possibility of sea-sickness!

Basically, any where you can think of could become the location for your wedding ceremony – the possibilities are endless. There's no harm in contacting the venue of your choice to see if they have a license to carry out a wedding service, and even if they don't, your enquiry may inspire them to do so in the future!
