David Beckham tops player rich list

7th December 2006

Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham remains Britain's wealthiest footballer in a list of the sport's richest people.

Beckham's fortune is estimated to be worth a staggering £75m, according to FourFourTwo magazine.

Arsenal star Dennis Bergkamp is second on the list with £37m, followed by Newcastle striker Michael Owen in third place with £30m.

Manchester City's Robbie Fowler remained at number four with a fortune of £28m.

Sol Campbell (£26m), Roy Keane (£25m), Alan Shearer (£22), Rio Ferdinand (£20m), Ryan Giggs (£20m) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (£20m) complete the top ten.

However, Beckham is only ranked 32nd in the overall list of British football's money men.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich tops the list with an estimated £10bn - up £2.5bn from last year.

He is followed by Tottenham's Joe Lewis on £2bn and Celtic's Dermot Desmond on £867m.

US Sports tycoon Malcolm Glazer, who took over Manchester United in May, is fifth on the list with £735m.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is the wealthiest manager on the list with an estimated fortune of £20m.

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is second with £18m and England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is third with £12m.

To qualify for the list, people had to be either British or British-based.
