Computer and electronics firm Apple has sold over one million videos through the iTunes Music Store since it debuted on October 12, the company has announced.

Customers with a video iPod can choose from over 2,000 music videos, Pixar short films and hit TV shows for just $1.99.

Top downloads include music videos from Michael Jackson, Fatboy Slim and Kanye West and episodes of ABC's hit TV shows Lost and Desperate Housewives.

"Selling one million videos in less than 20 days strongly suggests there is a market for legal video downloads," said Steve Jobs, Apple's chief executive.

"Our next challenge is to broaden our content offerings, so that customers can enjoy watching more videos on their computers and new iPods."

The video iPod, available in either black or white, fills out the top end of Apple's family of gadgets.

It holds up to 15,000 songs, 150 hours of video and 25,000 photos and is available in a 30GB model for $299 and a 60GB model for $399.

The device, which is lighter and thinner than the original iPod, boasts up to 20 hours of battery life and features a 2.5-inch color display.

During the fourth quarter of 2005 Apple sold 6.5 million iPods, a year-on-year rise of 200 per cent.
