Google launches music search

16th December 2005

US Internet company Google has added a music listing feature to its search engine pages.

Results include information on artists, lists of all the songs recorded on a specific album, lyrics and links to websites where you can purchase music.

The music feature is similar in concept and placement to other special sections Google has introduced for movies and weather.

"In analyzing our traffic, we found that a huge number of users conduct music-related searches," the company said in a statement.

"To better meet this need, we developed this feature to put users in touch with the information they're looking for faster, and with a user interface specifically designed for music.

"While we are only showing music links in limited cases to start, we plan to expand the range of searches that trigger this feature over time."

Rival search engines Yahoo, MSN and Ask Jeeves launched similar services earlier this year.
