Make the most of your weekend with a visit to Denmark's fourth-largest city, Aalborg.
Last September, Sterling Airlines, the largest low cost carrier in Scandinavia launched a new low-cost route from London Gatwick to Aalborg - the capital of Northern Jutland, with one daily departure excluding Saturday.
The Boeing 737-500 with 126 seats now operates Monday to Friday and Sunday with fares as little as £25 one-way, including taxes and charges.
The little known city of Aalborg is one of the most fascinating cities in Denmark. Its creative and vibrant energy is matched by its fabulous architecture, high-octane nightlife and rich and varied culture.
With a journey time of just 15 minutes between Aalborg Airport and the four star Helnan Phonix Hotel - Aalborg's oldest hotel dating back to 1853, this is surely the fastest low-cost city break ever!
Aalborg is famed as a festive city that never sleeps, with a nightlife that has earned the city the nickname "The Little Paris of the North". Famed for Aquavit - the drink with a kick - Aalborg is a quirky and chic city with more restaurants and bars per inhabitant than any other town in Denmark. With a range of dishes - both international and traditional, there is something to suit everyone's palette.
Jomfru Ane Gade is the area where you will find the longest continuous stretch of restaurants, pubs cafes and bars - and the perfect place to start your city break. Thursday's are the day to really let your hair down and experience the vibrant nightlife where all drinks are reduced to give you even more reason to party!
Originally a Viking settlement the city also holds one of the most important remains in Danish history. In 1952, 700 graves were excavated at Lindholm Hoje and the burial site now holds The Viking Museum - which is one of the rime tourist attractions of the region. A visit to the North Jutland Art Museum is also a must to experience the intriguing architecture designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto.
Aalborg also hosts the only Opera festival of its kind in Denmark during March, and in May the city puts on the largest carnival in Northern Europe with over 25,000 participants to the Grand Parade.
For the quickest fix to the autumn blues - a visit to one of the quirkiest cities in Europe is a must.
