The hotbed of romance, Paris, has fallen out of favour with travellers, slipping to third place in Expedia's Top 10 Destinations for Couples list.
And as Brits shun the intimacy of Parisian cafes and walks along the Left Bank, they're US bound, to New York City where they hit the shops, soak up the Sex & the City glamour, and indulge in Sleepless in Seattle moments on top of the Empire State Building.
Moonlit romantic cruises, cosy cafes and its infamous diamond shops secured Amsterdam's number two position in the top 10, while many couples are also visiting the likes of Rome and Madrid.
Other popular destinations for couples include Barcelona, Dublin, Orlando and Nice.
And according to Expedia, couples travelling to these romantic cities were more than twice as likely (62 per cent) to pull out all the stops to impress and make the most of their stay by booking themselves into a 4 or 5 star hotel.
Dermot Halpin, managing director of Expedia.co.uk, said: "New York has always been a favourite for travellers, but never before has it reached number one spot for couples.
"What we're seeing is a continuation of the on-going trend whereby destinations such as France are being surpassed by places further afield as travellers look to experience different places and different cultures.
"So if you're planning your next romantic break and want to try something new, we've something to suit all tastes - so you're both guaranteed a perfect trip."
