Peru's Machu Picchu, the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal in India are among the new Seven Wonders of the World.
They are joined by Mexico's Chichen Itza, Jordan's Petra, Brazil's Statue of Christ Redeemer and the Coliseum in Rome.
The winners, based on a global poll by private Swiss foundation New 7 Wonders of the World, were announced at a star-studded ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal, on Saturday evening.
Pop singer Jennifer Lopez and Oscar-winning American actress Hilary Swank were both in attendance.
According to New 7 Wonders of the World, more than 100 million people from over 200 countries took part in the survey.
"It is the first time in history that all the citizens of the world have been able to vote and decide," said Diogo Freitas do Amaral, chairman of New 7 Wonders of the World.
In total, 21 architectural marvels from around the globe had been nominated for inclusion by the public.
The Eiffel Tower in Paris, Russia's Kremlin and Australia's Sydney Opera House had all made the coveted shortlist but missed out on the ultimate prize.
Other landmarks on the shortlist included the Acropolis in Athens, the Ankor in Cambodia, New York's Statue of Liberty and Britain's Stonehenge.
The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were the Great Pyramids of Giza, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Temple of Artemis, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Mausoleum of Maussollos, Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria.
The Great Pyramids of Giza are the only surviving structures from the original list.
