British pop group the Spice Girls have added three more dates to their upcoming reunion tour.

The group will now perform extra concerts in Vancouver, San Jose, California and Shanghai.

The much-hyped six-continent, 14-night tour will now start on December 2 in Vancouver.

In a statement on their website, the group said: "In true girl power tradition we are taking over the world... again!

"We have just found out that we've had over three million ticket requests on the website. As our own VB would say, that is Major!!"

The full line-up has not performed live on stage since Geri Halliwell, known as 'Ginger Spice', quit the group back in May 1998.

"I always felt in my heart the reunion had to happen and it was the right thing to do," said Halliwell.

"Having said that, we haven't been together for many years, and so when we put up the availability to register to come and buy tickets, you don't know, maybe two people want to come, maybe twenty, maybe lots.

Geri Halliwell: "I always felt in my heart the reunion had to happen and it was the right thing to do."

"And it turns out that 3 million people registered. That's 18 million people who want to come and see the Spice Girls.

"We are like the Waltons. We are taking all seven children, one husband, a few boy-friends, five grown-up women and all their stuff.

"We really pride ourselves that we have always loved our families and we've treated each other like family."

Formed in 1994 by entertainment guru Simon Fuller, the Spice Girls have sold more than 55 million albums worldwide and have had a staggering nine UK number one singles.

They released their debut single, Wannabe, in 1996. The track spent seven weeks at the top of the UK singles chart and helped establish the group as a global phenomenon.

The band consists of Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Halliwell.
